The Magi Following the Star

Matthew 2:9-11 states, “After they had heard the king, [the magi] went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.”

As depicted in these verses, this committee here acts as both the magi and the star on a frequent basis. We fulfill the role of the magi by offering wisdom to others regarding the donation process as well as assisting in bringing the “gifts” to those in need. We also serve as the star by guiding the way for the donation process to actually occur here at St. Vincent. Most importantly, as when the magi followed the star to Bethlehem, may we always look towards and honor the Lord’s leading while serving as One body in enriching His gift of life for all!
